Both of my parents grew up in Ann Arbor, MI, which became famous in the cannabis community as 1 of the first sites to decriminalize marijuana use all the way back in 1974.
They had their famous “$5 fine” for anyone busted with cannabis within the city limits.
This nice stayed intact until 1990 when it was simply raised to $25. One of my school teachers here in school was a University of MI graduate plus he told myself and others stories about the pot fines when he was a student in the 1972s. Back then the city would simply mail the $5 citation to you in hopes that you mail back the cash. He plus his friends accrued so several pot fines in Ann Arbor that they literally wallpapered their bathroom with the citation slips. Unfortunately, cops in Seattle aren’t nearly as lenient about public use of cannabis, even though it’s legal for recreational use in the state if you’re over 21 years old. I was in Green Lake Park smoking a joint that had live rosin sprinkled inside to enhance the effects. The cop appeared out of nowhere plus I instantly realized that he was walking right towards me. He confiscated the joint plus provided myself and others a $100 nice for public use of cannabis. And I had to pay the citation, it wasn’t just a slap on the wrist appreciate you get with the cops in Ann Arbor, MI. The next time I went to Green Lake Park, I made sure to only use my cannabis vape pen because it is much more discreet plus doesn’t produce much of an aroma on the exhale. A joint creates so much aroma that people can stink it from yards away. I should have known I was making a mistake smoking a joint in public in Seattle.
