When I first started shopping at the various dispensaries located in Albuquerque, I knew very little about cannabis.
- Initially, I strictly purchased pre-rolls and smokable flower.
I made my choices by the effects associated with indicas, sativas and hybrids. I was unfamiliar with the specifics of different cannabinoids and had never heard of terpenes. As I’ve consulted with budtenders and experimented with a variety of consumption methods and strains, I’ve become more knowledgeable. I’m able to be more particular about my decisions and better enjoy the experience and effects. I now pay close attention to the THC and CBD ratios. I’ve figured out that terpene profiles are responsible for the distinctive flavors and scents of individual cannabis strains. The sticky texture, fragrance and even the crystal-like shimmer of the buds are all due to terpenes. They are found in all plant life, including citrus fruits, spices, herbs and flowers. There are over terpene varieties included in the cannabis plant. Myrcene, limonene, pinene, linalool and humulene are some of the more common terpenes, with each one providing different therapeutic benefits. Along with simply enjoying the psychoactive high of cannabis, I have begun to appreciate the medicinal rewards as well. The huge selection of products available at the Albuquerque dispensaries allows me to focus on treatment of pain, inflammation, insomnia, migraines and skin conditions such as eczema, sunburn and bee stings. I am amazed at the wide potential of cannabis and excited to discover new products. I’ve gradually expanded my preferences to include edibles, vapes, tinctures and topicals.
