My best friend moved to Denver last year, and I decided to visit the guy this summer.

He wanted me to visit during the winter months so we could enjoy skiing and the snow, but I wasn’t the least bit interested in flying to Denver in the middle of winter.

I was interested in visiting Jack in Denver, because of the legal marijuana laws. Legal recreational marijuana was one of the biggest reasons why Jack decided to move when his job opened a new branch in the city of Denver. I was bummed out that my best friend moved out of the city and state, but I understood why he made the choice. As soon as I had the opportunity to visit, I hopped on an airplane and took a direct flight all the way to Denver. As soon as the plane landed, I wanted to go to a legal recreational marijuana dispensary. Jack knew the best place to go in Denver for marijuana and he took me there immediately. I bought a lot of different items. I felt like a kid in the candy store. All of the packages had bright colors and cool names. The place had a huge selection of edible cannabis treats like gummy worms, bears, and coins as well as chocolate, corn nuts, and cookies. I’ve never seen so many different marijuana items in the same place. It was almost overwhelming and I spent $200 on mairjuana. I didn’t plan to spend that much money on weed, so I had to watch my spending on souvenirs at the end of the trip.

I managed to buy a really nice truck. It was easily the nicest truck in town if you ask me. It was listed on an 8in frame with giant mud and snow tires. It had a sound system with subwoofers and speakers. The truck was absolutely perfect. Even though gas was expensive, I didn’t mind paying for diesel. Of course, now things are much different. When I started driving the truck, the price of gas was only $2.79 a gallon. Now the cost of gas is $6.49. I still work at the sawmill, but my pay has not gone up that much and the price of gas is now costing me a fortune. It has become particularly difficult for me to leave the house unless it is necessary. I simply can’t afford to pay for gas. Thankfully there are a lot of places around the Denver area that offer delivery services. I can have many different types of food delivered, like Pizza, Wings, Mexican food, Chinese, Thai, and even Indian food. It’s also nice to have recreational Cannabis delivery. Marijuana has been legal in the state of Colorado and the city of Denver for almost 10 years. During that time, many different recreational and medical marijuana dispensaries have opened in the Denver area. I am close to five different places that offer delivery. With the price of gas continuing to rise, I feel very lucky that the cannabis store offers free delivery services. I am hopeful that the price of gas will eventually return to a reasonable amount.

I hate to spend a lot of money.

My wife constantly gives me a hard time, because she thinks that I am cheap.

I prefer to go on vacation once each year during the summer. For the past couple of years, we have gone camping. Camping is a fun activity and it doesn’t cost a lot of money. We can rent a campsite for $25 each night and we can make our own food right at the site. We don’t have to spend a ton of money for lodging, dinners, or entertainment. That is my idea of the perfect vacation. We still have a lot of fun, but we don’t spend a fortune. When my wife mentioned going to San Francisco for a week, I immediately shot that idea down. I knew that but a week in San Francisco was going to cost thousands of dollars. My wife continued to look at plans and she secretly booked a hotel for the two of us. The email confirmation came to her email, but I found the charge on the credit card. My wife immediately confessed to making plans to go to San Francisco. I realized how much the trip meant to her, so we agreed to go to the city with a couple of ground rules on spending. Of course, all of those rules went right out the window when I realized that our hotel was situated right next door to a marijuana dispensary. I’m sure my wife planned that on purpose, because I wanted to go inside the dispensary to look at everything. I purchased several different marijuana items from the dispensary and my wife brought that up every time she wanted to spend money in San Francisco.

San Francisco is a beautiful city filled with history, culture, and nightlife.

• One of my favorite places in San Francisco is the wharf.

On a cold day, a hot bread bowl filled with clam chowder is one of the best things that I can think of. My wife and I went to the wharf last weekend. It was a cold day, but there was a little bit of sun shining in the sky behind the clouds. My wife and I found a place close to the wharf to park the car. The San Francisco parking garage was $20 for the whole day, but it was safe, secure, and there was a guard at the parking lot all day. We spent most of our day on the wharf. We visited many of the different shops and we picked up fudge, salt water taffy, and a couple of postcards to send to friends. We picked up a booklet with coupons for the San Francisco area. One of the many coupons was from a weed delivery service. My wife and I didn’t plan to go to the marijuana delivery service. We don’t smoke weed or use any recreational drugs. We left all of the coupons inside of a bag and we placed the bag in the garbage. If someone wants to fetch it out to take advantage of the coupons, they are more than welcome to dive in the dumpster. It wouldn’t be my cup of tea, but someone else might want to take advantage of the weekly weed sales.

My daughter Sara decided from a young age that she wanted to become a nurse. She fell in love with nursing because my sister (her favorite aunt) is a nurse. My sister encourages Sara and has been great in giving her advice on the best way to pursue the career. I am grateful that Sara has the guidance that she needs because I know nothing about nursing. With the help of my sister, Sara was able to get into Washington State University College of Nursing. Prior to starting school, we decided to tour the campus and the area just to get an idea of where Sara will be spending her college years. The college campus is beautiful and so is the city of Spokane. I absolutely fell in love with the downtown area. The only thing I didn’t love was how cold the temperature was when we were there. I hope that Sara is ready to battle the brutal Winters. Hopefully, when she finds housing, it has a good heating system. We looked at a few places while we toured, and I must admit that the inside of most of them were warm and toasty. That was the most important thing on Sara’s list – having a warm apartment to seek refuge from the cold. She especially loved one apartment because it has a programmable thermostat that she could access from anywhere. So, she could turn on the furnace before she gets home from school. If we get that apartment, I am sure that Sara will be using this programmable thermostat every day. She is going to need to stay warm in those brutal Winter months.

I often travel for work.

As I head up the interstate, I see signs advertising restaurants, hotels, used cars and grocery stores.

Since the legalization of recreational marijuana, there are now advertising dispensaries. I live in Indiana but travel across the state border into Michigan to meet with clients. I spend a lot of time in Whitehall, Michigan, where there are multiple recreational cannabis dispensaries. I have a favorite that I visit. I am required to show a valid government-issued identification before I can make a purchase. The bartenders know me and are aware that I’m coming in from Indiana. Apparently about 60% of their customers are from my home state. We all purchase the maximum amount allowable, which is 15 grams. The biggest issue is that it isn’t not legal for me to transport cannabis back over state lines. It’s also not legal for me to drive under the influence. Cannabis enthusiasts from my state are spending a great deal of money in Michigan and boosting the economy. We not only buy marijuana but pay tax on it. We get gas, eat in the local restaurants and often stay in the hotels. I am amazed that Indiana is allowing all that revenue to be spent elsewhere. We should be putting that money into our own state. There has been talk of a bill to legalize cannabis in Indiana, but so far, there has been no progress. I continue to drive to Whitehall and shop at the dispensary. I am happy that I have access to a wide selection of cannabis flower, pre-rolls, vapes, tinctures, topicals, edibles, beverages and concentrates.

Before moving to Albuquerque for graduate school, I was living up north and braving the nasty winter blizzards every year.

As someone who naturally struggles with anxiety, constantly wondering if my electricity was going to stop and my pipes freeze was more than enough to push me southward. On top of that, I lived in an area that was surprisingly susceptible to tornadoes and other extreme spring storm weather. A few times in my childhood the sky turned green and we heard the tornado sirens warning us of an impending funnel cloud in the area. I never saw a tornado first hand, but I saw more than enough on the news and weather channels that I was scared for life. Moving down to the southwest was a nice change, as there aren’t nearly that many tornadoes down here. Take my current city of Albuquerque for example. We only get weaker tornadoes that die down quickly, and they usually only happen once every 10 years or more. Our winters are fairly mild as well compared to what I’m used to, as temperatures in this part of New Mexico stay above 30 degrees for most of the season. If you have plants you might need to cover them for frost protection, but other than that the temperatures are easy to acclimate to compared to the places I’m used to instead. My house is in Sandia Heights and my neighbors and I all have heat pumps for heating and cooling purposes. They’re effective in temperatures that aren’t too cold, but at 30 and up I can’t imagine ever needing a supplemental heating system. My HVAC company is on Alameda Blvd as well, making them much closer than my last heating and cooling contractor.

Smoking weed at sea level is a lot different than doing it at 5,000 or even 10,000 feet.

I grew up in the south near the ocean, so for much of my life I was never above 100 feet over sea level outside of the few times we traveled to a nearby state to visit family.

When I took a trip through the Smoky Mountains one year, I immediately realized that it was harder for me to breathe than normal. My ears were hurting because they kept popping the higher we got into the foothills of the Appalachians. I didn’t get to see mountains again until I moved to Albuquerque after graduating from college and finding a job in Nob Hill. I love that the window in my bedroom looks out in the direction of the Sandia Mountains. Taking the Sandia Peak Tramway is an amazing experience that you need to do at least once in your life, especially if you’re a resident of the area. However, the first time I smoked weed in the city it was different than being lower in elevation. The feeling of vertigo and lightheadedness got even worse when I smoked a joint at South Sandia Peak one afternoon. I had to rest for an hour before trying to descend the mountain on foot. I kept worrying that the vertigo would cause me to slip and fall, getting swallowed by hard rocks and sharp trees in the process. At least I’m used to the elevation difference nowadays when I’m smoking marijuana. I don’t run into nearly as many problems as before, which is a total godsend in my mind.

I went hiking with some friends last weekend.

We went to the beach near Cocoa, Florida, and we walked for 10 miles or more.

My legs were sore and hurting by the time we were finished walking through the sand. It was a really good workout. Walking through sand is great for the calves and hamstrings. It also helps with cardio. When I got home from the trip to Cocoa, Florida, I felt really overheated. I laid down in front of the air conditioner. The AC felt really cold on my hot skin. I fell asleep on the bed with the AC on high. I must have passed out, because I didn’t wake up for 3 hours. I woke up because the phone was ringing. I moved away from the air conditioner so I could hear the woman on the phone. She claimed to have my wallet, drivers license, and credit cards. The woman said she found my wallet on the beach and she wanted to return it to me. I was totally flabbergasted and dumbfounded. I didn’t even realize that my wallet was missing. The kind person returned my wallet and I didn’t even know it was missing. I felt like an idiot. I told the woman that I would happily meet her anywhere and we agreed to a time and a place. We met at a grocery store right outside of Cocoa, Florida. I waited in the parking lot and the woman arrived a few minutes after me. Everything was still inside of my wallet, including the $17 I left the house with earlier that morning. I felt incredibly thankful that this kind and honest person found my wallet.

I know there is an issue happening with my AC unit at home, but I can’t pinpoint what the problem is.

I wanted to fix the issue without calling a service professional in Orland Park, but it looks like that’s not going to happen.

It’s getting warmer and warmer. I don’t want to find myself in the middle of July without the AC working. I finally broke down and contacted the local service provider in Orland Park. I made an appointment for Saturday afternoon. The service provider did not charge extra for the weekend call, so I waited until I knew my wife and I would both be home at the same time. If the Orland Park contractor needed a decision about parts or repairs, I didn’t want to make that decision on my own. The contractor carefully evaluated the AC. He did not believe the unit needed to be replaced, but he did believe that it needed to be serviced. He took the machine apart and cleaned all of the pieces inside. He lubricated the moving parts and the motor and replaced the air filter with something clean and brand new. The Orland Park contractor told my wife and I that the AC will get us through this summer. He did recommend thinking about a replacement before the next season. The contractor did not believe we were going to get two Summers out of the equipment. The contractor was super helpful and honest. He could have told us to replace the AC and we would never have asked a single question.
